View detailed profile Advanced or search site with Search Forums Advanced. I've never had any issues here as a lesbian, and neither has my gf. That's not to say there aren't plenty of clubs with homophobia in Oklahoma, but I feel comfortable here in almost all situations. In small towns when we aren't familiar with the locals, I sometimes feel a bit uneasy, but that might just be me.
Gf doesn't feel that way anywhere. And, unless we're driving out of state, we're rarely in a small town anyway. For people who need more variety, sometimes they drive to Dallas - I haven't known anyone willing to go to Dallas for a party since college, though. Norman has a decent gay population, and it is fairly common to see gay couples roaming around campus, or in museums, at bars, etc.
Tulsa has more drag gay eek, and don't bother with the Wreck Room unless you're a teenager with nothing better to do. I lived many years in Tulsa and worked in the Utica Square area. Utica, which is near downtown, is a beautiful area of Tulsa with many older homes. Lots of character. I know there is high gay population in that area.
There are nice restaurants and a lot of unique shops. There is also a beautiful park in that area called Woodward Park Many stillwater companies in the area too. Uitca Square is lovely upscale shopping. I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue with the nicest gay men! They were the best guys in the world.
I think this is true of all the people who are attracted to the Utica Area. Very friendly with a bit of sophistocation. I think you would love it there. I never observed any problems and only saw respect for gay people there. I think because the people of Tulsa see how productive the gay community has been in revitalizing the Utica, Cherry Street and Mid-Town areas.
They have remodeled classic homes, opened business, and kept the economy going in that area of town.
